A St. Louis Detective Refused to Testify in Cases to Thwart Progressive Prosecutor

A St. Louis police officer has refused to testify in at least nine ، cases in which he served as lead detective, contributing to decisions to offer defendants in at least four of the cases plea deals with reduced charges and lighter sentences, and facing no punishment from his department, report Jeremy Kohler and Ryan Krull for ProPublica and the Riverfront Times. St. Louis police detective Roger Murphey said he was willing to help ، suspects walk free to make a point, even if he arrested them and believed that they s،uld be behind bars. Murphey’s actions are endemic of the kind of pushback to progressive prosecutors that police around the country have engaged in.
